Login to your cpanel by typing this in your browser bar:
http://your-IP-numbers/cpanel/~your-user-name If your IP
is 70.50.23.562 and your user name is knowitall then your
cpanel address is: http://70.50.23.562/cpanel/~knowitall
A window will pop up for you to login to your account. Add
the user name and password you were given from your hosting
company. Click OK. If this doesn't work for you, you will
have to check with your hosting company to find out how to
locate your cpanel. This will work for most hosts. Once
you are logged into your cpanel, you will see a screen
similar to this one:

Click on the File Manager icon. This will open a new page
that will look like this:

Click on the folder in front of public_html. This will open
a page that looks similar to this:

You will see a list of the pages on your website. If you are
working in a sub domain, you will have to click on the sub
domain folder to find the right area.
How to
Set up a Subdomain:
First, go to your cpanel:
http://www.yourdomainname.com/cpanel
OR
http://your-IP-numbers/cpanel/~your-user-name
(see instructions above)
You will see an icon for sub domains (third
row down). Click on this and fill in the
first empty box with the sub domain name of
your choice. Click Add and wait for the
process to complete. That's all there is to
it. (You don't have to concern yourself with
the other options. They are not used for
this application.)
Now you have a sub domain. It will look the
same as a folder in your File Manager but it
will act differently in a browser. The main,
visible difference is you can write the URL
like this:
http://subdomain.maindomain.com
OR
http://www.maindomain.com/subdomain
Why is
this important?
When you are optimizing your website for the
search engines, the first option is far
better. The search engines will give more
weight to a domain name that uses keywords
for the site. Also, the first word is
considered the most important. So your sub
domain name will help your seo efforts.
When the
search engine robots go to
http://trees.maindomain.com
and find
the site is about trees, they consider your
site to be more to the point and
more
important than
http://www.maindomain.com/trees,
like trees was an
after thought rather than a main issue.

Click on the page you want to edit and look to the right
of the screen. You will see Html Editor. Click on this link
and your page will open in an html editor. (If your host
does not have this option, you can use the Edit File link
instead but you will be very limited in your editing.) All
the hosting packages that I recommend do offer this Html
Editor in their cpanel:
Once you have the html editor open, you will see a
screen that looks similar to this:

I have used my Cats website for this example, you
will see the site page you are editing.
Notice at the bottom of the screen there are three
tabs. Design, Html Code and Preview. If you click on the
design tab, you can edit the page just like you would
any written document. Put your cursor where you want to
add text and type the new text.
You can click over to the preview tab to see what
your additions look like. Do this as many times as you
wish. When you are done editing that page, click to
design view and you will see the save icon:

Click on the icon that looks like a little floppy
disk. Now all your changes are saved to your server.
Repeat this set of steps for every page you want to
edit.
You will find instructions for editing your google ad
codes and any other affiliate links that you site may have
in the page called Read-This-First.html that is included
with your site. Each site has this page which is specific to
the site.
To edit your new site, start at the top and work you way
down through the instructions in your Read-This-First Page.
DO NOT change anything that you are not instructed to
change until you know what you are doing. Save each page as you complete the changes.
If you make a big mistake and change the layout of the
page, you can always upload a new copy of the site from
your computer but it is best to work slow and make sure
you are happy with the changes before you save the page.
Always check "Preview" before you save.
